Website Content

I wrote a column for the pop culture website Pop Bunker that I called Sequel City. In this column, I presented a look at the often overlooked and usually maligned art form that is the movie sequel. I reviewed each movie, giving a little background and highlighting positives (and humorous negatives) for my readers.

Although this column was more casual than the other professional examples I offer in my portfolio, Sequel City does represent a writing project that showcases many of my skills in content creation and UX—even if I didn’t realize it at the time.

Design thinking went into every column I did, from emphasizing and defining the Sequel City concept to ideating and prototyping each review. I worked with my clients—the website owners—to fulfill their content strategy with their quirky, eccentric pop culture brand. I researched each movie to write about it with sufficient familiarity, and the concept allowed me to craft user stories to optimize the experience for the reader.

On the technical side, writers for Pop Bunker uploaded their material using a WordPress app, something I had never done before. This required navigating HTML and creating the successful information architecture for each column.

Beyond that, I have to say that Sequel City was a lot of fun. I return to the columns from time to time, even though I do cringe at my use of two spaces after periods back then. I have since fixed this!

The Pop Bunker website is no longer available online, but a few chunks of the site were saved on the Internet Archive. The following screenshots are missing some of the original pictures and banners, but they are good representations of what users would have seen in the Sequel City column.
